Disrupting Classroom

Here's an article just released by Veja (a Brazilian magazine) about the connected educator in the XXI classroom. We all know that you've been overwhelmed by the new challenges as educators, but the new needs of our digital era have a direct reflex on how we teach and learn, and we need to be aware of that start to think how we can make the digital shift that can make a difference to our learners.

I just forgot to mention something about the picture I posted and the article. Technology and our choice to use it only make sense if we are aware of our learners' needs. It's all about humanware, not about the tech stuff by itself. This is what I'm always saying. It's not just being connected, it's what it means, where it takes us and our learners.

Dear Gilmar,

Yes, we've been busy! Hard to be in one place and many at the same time. This place is just a reminder that it only makes sense when we share, add to our collective knowledge. Soon, I'll start another Webtools4educators round, but I do wish to keep our fruitful conversations here. Just this morning Patricia shared a wonderful video that is worth seeing and sharing with our students.

I really don't know what might have happened with Ning...Probably some gremlins! :-)

Great to hear that, Cecilia! In fact, I posted about Patricia's video and some friends have been asking where I found that treasure and I mentioned the work Pat is doing spreading the word of the need for more "global educators". In very simple ways, we can make our classes more global, we can make our learners more aware of what's around us. And Patricia has been giving wonderful presentations about it. I'll talk to Pat and see if she could share here some interesting ideas with us. Oh, about the purses in Flickr, I'll add some more when I move back to my house!

Hi Carla,
I've just watched the video suggested by Patricia Faustino, it can be really useful. I can now say that the course last year really made a difference for me as a teacher and a person. M y private students still want to have the same type of teacher/book lesson, still I always have my computer on and whenever I have the chace I visit sites that may interest them or check online dicionaries together with them, or the youtube for a song or even the wikipedia just to show them that there's more to see thatn me and the book, what I mean is that little by little I've been including technology in the classes because I believe the it makes them more interesting. Yesterday the classes at UNB started let's see if I convince the students to do something togheter with me. I haven't decided yet what to do, first I have to get to know them. Miss you all......... Carla I loved to get to know your purse at flickr, I love purses,

Hi Carla...
It's funny I woke up this morning thinking about this place and I wondered what could be going on. We have been involved with so many things it's very easy to lose contact if we are not careful about it. BTW, when I tried to log in here I was sent to that window where we actually join the group - anything wrong? I'll be back soon and hopefully have something interesting to share here.
Miss you all and those busy days during our course last year.

Dear Pat,

We'll never get there! That's why we are lifelong learners. There's always something new taking place around us. However, if we add just a tiny bit of what's there, I think we are contributing to our learner's educational experience.

I loved the link you shared for world issues, and you are an inspiration as a global educator!

Look at this slide show I found that could be used in classes to discuss a few world issues!
